New Europeans Perspectives N.9: A Western civilisational crisis - Fighting back obscurantism: where to begin?

In the face of a collapse of rationality at the heart of Western civilisation and in the general context of change of paradigm – both dramatically accelerated by the pandemic, we are all lost in transition. Rethinking the aims, principles, contents, methods, tools and vehicles of education, appear as an existential priority.

The academic world is rich of ideas in this regard, full of all the matter required to lay down the foundations of the next model. BUT the gigantic amounts of money thrust at patching the waning economy hardly find the path of schools and universities. Any coherent vision anyway is missing. And we are left to wonder what relevent decision-making level has the political capacity to induce the reinvention.

It is on this last aspect that our conversation will focus: «where to begin?» But of course basic elements for a coherent vision based on the analysis of the nature of the crisis will be addressed too by guests.

Una crisi della civiltà occidentale - Combattere l'oscurantismo: da dove cominciare?

Di fronte al collasso della razionalità nel cuore della civiltà occidentale e nel contesto generale del cambiamento di paradigma - entrambi drammaticamente accelerati dalla pandemia, siamo tutti persi nella transizione. Ripensare gli obiettivi, i principi, i contenuti, i metodi, gli strumenti e i veicoli dell'educazione appare come una priorità esistenziale.

Il mondo accademico è ricco di idee al riguardo, ricco di tutta la materia necessaria per gettare le basi del prossimo modello. MA le enormi quantità di denaro spinte a patching l'economia in declino difficilmente trovare il percorso di scuole e università. Manca comunque ogni visione coerente. E ci si può chiedere quale sia il livello decisionale pertinente che ha la capacità politica di indurre la reinvenzione.

È su quest'ultimo aspetto che si concentrerà la nostra conversazione: «da dove cominciare?» Ma naturalmente gli elementi di base per una visione coerente basata sull'analisi della natura della crisi saranno affrontati anche dagli ospiti.
